Biografy
Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on December 17, 1936.
On December 13, 1969, he received the priestly ordination from Archbishop Ramón José Castellano.
In 1998 he was appointed Archbishop of Buenos Aires and in 2001 Juan Pablo II named him Cardinal.
In 2002 he declined the appointment as President of the Argentine Bishops’ Conference, but three years later he is re-elected and later reconfirmed for another three years in 2008.
In 2005, he participated to the conclave in which Benedict XVI was elected.
On March 13, 2013 he was elected successor of Benedict XVI. He is the first Pope from the American continent and the first Spanish-speaking.
