Visit to the parish of San Benito José Labre 10-31-1999

At the end of the Holy Mass, in a parish hall was held a meeting with the youth and with the members of the pastoral council and the representatives of the different realities of the parish. On behalf of those present, Vittorio, 29, addressed these words of greeting to the Pope:

«Holy Father, we have greeted you with the words that Elizabeth said to the Virgin Mary:“ How is it that the Mother of the Lord comes to me? ” This song expresses gratitude to you for this visit to our parish community. In this meeting we are present: a Neocatechumenal Community, the promoters of the oratory, the catechists, the members of the financial council of the parish and the young people who are preparing for the World Youth Day. Holy Father, in these few years of the life of our parish we have seen that we are not “good”, we are weak and sinful and so many times it is difficult for us to be a light in our neighborhood, but we have experienced that only in Christ, dead and risen for our salvation, there is life; For this reason we ask His Holiness, as Peter’s successor, to confirm us in faith. Thank you, we are grateful and full of joy for your presence among us ».

The Holy Father, speaking to the present said these words:  

«Enseguida se nota que sois Neocatecumenales. Basta escuchar los cantos. Que son vuestros cantos específicos. Después, que, sois gente joven, eso se ve. Os preparáis para el Año 2000, para la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud, en Roma: y esto está bien. También yo me preparo, aunque cada vez soy menos joven. Y los jóvenes me siguen siempre gozosos. Por eso os doy las gracias con ocasión de esta visita, y os deseo una buena continuación a todos; a las comunidades parroquiales, al consejo de pastoral, a los jóvenes y a los Neocatecumenales. El Jubileo irá bien. El Año 2000 está ya cerca. La Puerta Santa se abrirá dentro de menos de dos meses, el 24 de diciembre. Recordamos todavía a nuestros difuntos, en estos días particulares, en los que toda la Iglesia los conmemora. Gracias una vez más. ¡Tened siempre gran ánimo! También vuestro párroco es neocatecumenal se ve rápido. El que lleva barba es siempre sospechoso. También el coadjutor lleva barba. Entonces tratamos de admirar a los neocatecumenales, aunque no llevemos barba.
