BIOGRAFY
Joseph Ratzinger was born in Marktl am Inn (Germany) on April 16, 1927.
On June 29, 1961 he was ordained a priest in Munich. In 1953 he received his doctorate in theology.
In 1977 he was appointed Archbishop of München und Freising and cardinal the same year was named cardinal by Pope Paul VI.
In 1981 he was appointed by John Paul II as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, President of the Pontifical Biblical Commission and of the Pontifical International Theological Commission. He was president of the Commission for the preparation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church that he presented to the Holy Father. On July 3, 2015, he received the doctorate “honoris causa”.
On April 19, 2005, he was elected Pope of the Catholic Church taking the name of Benedict XVI.
On February 11, 2013 he resigned from the Pontificate of the Catholic Church becoming Pope Emeritus.
