Biografy
Karol Józef Wojtyła, was born in Wadowice (Krakow) on May 18, 1920.
On November 1, 1946 was ordained priest in Krakow. In 1948 obtained a doctorate in Theology.
In 1958 was appointed bishop, in 1964 was appointed Archbishop of Krakow by Paul VI, who made him cardinal in 1967.
On October 16, 1978 he was elected Pontiff of the Catholic Church, with the name of John Paul II.
He participated to the II Vatican Council with an important contribution to the drafting of the constitution Gaudium et spes.
He made many apostolic trips inside and outside Italy. In 1985 he began the World Youth Days. In 1994 he started the world meeting of families.
His pontificate has been one of the longest in the history of the Church.
John Paul II died on April 2, 2005. He was beatified on May 1, 2011 by Pope Benedict VI and canonized on April 27, 2014 by Pope Francis.
